Jonathan Says He Will Consult Widely on 2027 Presidential Bid

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has responded to renewed calls for him to contest the 2027 election.

He said he will consult widely before making any decision.

The statement came on Thursday during a solidarity rally held at his Maitama residence in Abuja.

The event was organized by the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan.

A large group of youths gathered around Taraba Close and nearby streets to show support.

The demonstration caused significant traffic disruption in the upscale Abuja district.

Protesters chanted slogans and danced to music while waving placards.

Some placards read “GEJ: Nigeria is dying, save it!” and “GEJ, Nigerian youths break the medicine wey dem do you.”

Another read “GEJ, if you no run, we quench,” reflecting the urgency of their appeal.

The youths described Jonathan as a unifying national figure.

They said he has the capacity to tackle Nigeria’s economic and political challenges ahead of 2027.

Addressing the crowd, Jonathan acknowledged their message and thanked them for their support.

“I’ve heard you loud and clear. I will consult widely before taking any decision,” he told the demonstrators.

He also urged young Nigerians to play a more active role in the democratic process.

Jonathan stressed the importance of peaceful, transparent, and credible elections.

He expressed concern over the country’s high rate of voter apathy.

According to him, citizens’ disengagement from elections remains a threat to democratic stability.
