Oborevwori Receives Lions Club Icon of Leadership Excellence Award in Asaba

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has received the Lions Club International Icon of Leadership Excellence Award.

The honour recognizes his exceptional leadership and developmental achievements in Delta State.

The presentation took place on Thursday during a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba.

Members of Lions Club International District 404 Nigeria led the delegation.

The team was headed by the Multiple Council Chairperson, Dr. Ibrahim Jide Bello.

The visit preceded the organization’s 19th Multiple Convention scheduled to hold in Asaba.

Dr. Bello said Asaba was chosen as the host city due to its peaceful environment.

He also cited improved infrastructure, accessibility, and security under Governor Oborevwori’s administration.

He commended the governor for creating an enabling atmosphere for major events.

“Thank you, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for providing the enabling environment that gave us the confidence to choose Asaba,” Dr. Bello stated.

He explained that several factors influenced the decision to host the convention in the Delta capital.

These included infrastructure, accessibility, security, and other key requirements.

Dr. Bello praised the governor’s support and leadership in facilitating the process.

Lions Club International remains one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations.

Since its founding in 1917, it has grown to over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries.

The organization’s interventions cover more than 90 humanitarian causes.

These include sight and vision care, childhood cancer support, and environmental sustainability.

Other areas include hunger relief, disaster response, and mental health awareness.

Lions Club also focuses on youth empowerment and healthcare interventions.

Dr. Bello highlighted the alignment between the governor’s MORE Agenda and Lions International’s humanitarian mission.

He specifically applauded progress in healthcare support, security enhancement, and social development.

Policy reforms under the administration also drew commendation from the organization.

Dr. Bello further disclosed that the Lions International Foundation plans to support healthcare initiatives in Delta State.

Proposed projects include interventions at Warri Central Hospital and other community-focused programs.

Responding, Governor Oborevwori thanked Lions Club for the recognition.

He acknowledged the group’s sustained contributions to healthcare through the Lions Eye Clinic and medical outreach programs.

The governor said the state values the organization’s work in education and environmental sustainability.

He noted that such efforts have positively impacted many lives across Delta.

Oborevwori expressed delight that Asaba is hosting the convention for the second time.

He said it reflects the confidence Lions Club has in Delta State.

The governor added that the event will boost tourism and economic activities in the state.

It will also project Delta as a peaceful and investment-friendly destination.

Oborevwori said the values of compassion, integrity, and selfless service embodied by Lions Club match his administration’s goals.

He assured the organization of continued government support for sustainable development and humanitarian service.

“You are indeed partners in progress, and we are proud of the work you continue to do in service to humanity,” he concluded.
