…..Stakeholders Decry Governor’s Contradictory Action on Zoning, Accuse Him of Double Standards and Pursuing a Politically Motivated Agenda
A coalition of religious, political and indigenous stakeholders in Nasarawa State has berated Governor Abdullahi Sule over what it described as a one-sided decision that undermines the principle of zoning ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
The group, drawn from across various ethnic and religious divides, rejected the alleged endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada from the Keffi, Karu and Kokona Federal Constituency, insisting that the move disregards equity and fairness.
In a statemen jointly signed on Thursday 16 April 2026, by its Chairman, Alhaji Ali Baba Nasarawa, and Secretary, Mallam Abdulrahman Sani Toto, the coalition accused the governor of betraying the people of Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, who they said had consistently supported his administration.
They argued that the Nasarawa/Toto axis remains the only federal constituency in the state yet to produce a governor since the state’s creation, stressing that equity demands it should be considered in the zoning arrangement.
“For the record, the Keffi, Karu and Kokona axis has already produced a governor between 1999 and 2003. It is therefore unjustifiable to return the governorship ticket to the same Federal Constituency,” the statement read.
The stakeholders further stated that the governor’s action contradicts his repeated public advocacy for zoning, describing the move as insincere and politically motivated.
They also accused Governor Sule of promoting sectional interests, warning that such a decision could deepen divisions within the state and affect the outcome of future elections.
The coalition urged the governor to reconsider his stance and adopt a more inclusive and transparent approach to the zoning process, warning that failure to do so may lead to electoral backlash.
They also called on the people of Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency to remain united and assert their political rights in the face of what they described as injustice.
“When discussing zoning, the process must be open, fair and inclusive. Imposition of candidates undermines democratic principles,” the group stated, adding that it would resist any attempt to sideline its constituency in the 2027 governorship contest.
