PDP Elects New Leaders: Mohammed and Anyanwu Take Helm

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected new leaders, with Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu chosen as National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively. This happened at a national convention held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Sunday.

Over 2,000 delegates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) attended the convention and endorsed the new leaders. Other prominent party members who attended include former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi.

The convention was led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who is part of the PDP’s leadership. However, the party is currently divided into two factions: one led by Wike and the other by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

Despite the division, the Wike-led group went ahead with the convention, electing new leaders. The other faction had taken their case to the Supreme Court, challenging the convention.

The newly elected leaders, Mohammed and Anyanwu, are expected to lead the party moving forward. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) also has 19 other members who were elected alongside them.

The convention was a significant event, with many prominent party members in attendance. It remains to be seen how the party will move forward, given the ongoing divisions.

The PDP is one of Nigeria’s major opposition parties, and the election of new leaders is seen as a key development in the country’s political landscape.
