ASP Nuhu Usman Dismissed Over Extrajudicial Killing of Delta Musician Mene Ogidi

Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

The dismissal follows the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old musician Mene Ogidi.

The incident occurred in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26, 2026.

Usman has also been recommended for murder charges.

The Inspector-General of Police approved the dismissal on April 29, 2026.

The decision came after a Force Disciplinary Committee hearing.

The committee found Usman in gross violation of Force Order 237.

Force Order 237 governs the rules of engagement for use of firearms.

A viral video of the shooting sparked nationwide outrage.

The footage showed Ogidi restrained on the ground with his hands tied behind his back.

He was unarmed at the time of the shooting.

In the video, Ogidi pleaded for his life and offered to cooperate with officers.

Despite being restrained, ASP Usman cocked his rifle and fired at close range.

Reports indicate Usman was off-duty and dressed in mufti during the incident.

Following his dismissal, Usman was transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed he will face prosecution in a regular court.
