The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Legislator Forum held a press conference in Abuja on Monday to outline its legislative agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The forum, made up of ADC senators, House of Representatives members, and state assembly legislators, said the briefing was to reaffirm the party’s commitment to issue-based politics.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Forum described the ADC as a credible alternative focused on governance reforms, economic inclusion, and accountability.
He stated that ADC legislators across the country have jointly agreed on key bills to prioritize, including electoral reform, job creation, and local government autonomy.
The forum announced plans to push for an amendment to the Electoral Act that strengthens electronic transmission of results and tightens campaign finance reporting.
On the economy, the legislators said they will sponsor a “Youth Enterprise and Innovation Bill” aimed at expanding access to credit and easing business registration for young entrepreneurs.
Members also pledged to support legislation that guarantees financial and administrative autonomy for Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
The forum expressed concern over rising insecurity and said it would back motions demanding improved funding, welfare, and equipment for security agencies.
On education, the ADC legislators promised to advocate for increased budgetary allocation and a nationwide scholarship scheme for science and technology students.
The press conference addressed party unity, with leaders dismissing reports of internal crisis and insisting the ADC remains focused on grassroots mobilization.
They announced that zonal legislative town halls will begin in May 2026 to engage citizens directly and gather input on proposed bills.
The forum ended by calling on Nigerians to demand issue-based campaigns in 2027 and assured that ADC lawmakers will provide transparent representation at all levels.
