Coventry’s Lampard Named Championship Manager of the Season

Frank Lampard has been named the EFL Championship Manager of the Season after guiding Coventry City to a remarkable campaign in 2025/2026.

The award was announced by the EFL on Monday following a vote by club managers, football experts, and supporters across the league.

Lampard took charge of Coventry in July 2025 and quickly reshaped the squad’s style, emphasizing high pressing, possession control, and youth development.

Under his leadership, the Sky Blues secured a top-six finish and booked a place in the Championship play-offs, defying pre-season expectations.

Coventry recorded 23 league wins, the club’s highest tally in over two decades, while also boasting one of the division’s best defensive records.

The team’s home form was particularly strong, with only two defeats at the Coventry Building Society Arena all season.

Lampard’s work with young players earned wide praise, as several academy graduates became regular starters and attracted national attention.

Players and staff credited the manager for instilling belief, tactical discipline, and a clear identity that resonated with fans.

Speaking after receiving the award, Lampard dedicated it to his players, backroom team, and the Coventry supporters who backed the side throughout.

He described the season as a collective effort and said the club’s progress was built on hard work and unity rather than individual recognition.

EFL officials noted that Lampard topped a shortlist that included managers from Leeds United, Ipswich Town, and West Bromwich Albion.

With the play-offs ahead, Lampard said the focus now shifts to promotion, but called the award a proud moment for everyone connected to Coventry City.
