Osaze Faults NFF Over Foreign-Born Player Recruitment Drive

Former Super Eagles forward Osaze Odemwingie has criticized the Nigeria Football Federation’s approach to player recruitment.

He faulted the NFF for what he described as aggressive pursuit of foreign-born players.

Odemwingie urged the federation to stop “begging” players with dual nationality to represent Nigeria.

He made the remarks while addressing questions on the state of the national team.

According to him, the current strategy devalues the significance of the Super Eagles jersey.

He argued that wearing the national colors should be earned through merit and genuine commitment.

The former West Brom striker said the focus should shift to local talent development.

Odemwingie stressed that over-reliance on foreign-born players undermines grassroots football structures.

He called on the NFF to invest more in academies, leagues, and scouting within Nigeria.
